OPTICAL LEARNING
This section below showcases a portion of the calculations and simulations used to determine the geometry of the lenses featured in our product.
Left & Right Panels: These display filament calculations performed using industry- standard optical design software. These simulations were used to confirm the theorized focal lengths of the lenses and validate our design assumption.
Central Panel (Top): Here, you'll find the core equations used to calculate the focal lengths of each lens. These formulas take into account the radii of curvature on both sides of the lens, the material properties (such as refractive index), and the lens thickness.
Central Panel (Bottom): This is a ray diagram, which visually represents how light interacts with the lens array. It illustrates the path of light rays as they pass through the lenses, showing how they converge or diverge based on the lens geometry and arrangement.
Together these elements form the foundation of our optical system, ensuring precision and performance in the final product.
CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT & CAD MODELING
This section highlights 4 initial design concepts that originated from hand-drawn sketches and were later developed into detailed CAD models using SolidWorks.
During the modeling process we identified several challenges related to manufacturability and practical application. These insights led us to refine our approach and ultimately converge on a new solution: threaded rod design.
This final concept integrates key features from the original ideas while addressing the limitations we encountered, resulting in a more feasible and efficient design for production.
